Joe Boyd’s A to Z Podcast, Letter XX: a Xylophonic eXploration

Uncategorized

I listen to a lot of podcasts, we’ll discuss them later. Maybe not all, but some of the better ones. Perhaps. I only listen to a single music podcast though, A to Z, that of esteemed American world citizen, music producer and labelman Joe Boyd. At the center of many great recordings, he created the sounds of my life — I knew I was an adult enjoying the folk recordings of Richard Thompson and his band Fairport Convention and I knew I was getting old when I understood the songs of Kate and Anna McGarrigle. All produced by Boyd with a sensitivity to the material and artist,  perhaps best heard on the works of Nick Drake or the Incredible String Band, both perhaps not ready for their time, both perhaps dated by it?

With his podcast, he turns his ears to highlights in his records, and on this link the melodies created by rhythm sticks.  Mallets beating across cultures, across time.
